Stone is a strong and long-lasting material that has become synonymous with durability. It is an excellent choice for building a house, and both natural and artificial stone are currently used for this purpose.
Values and disadvantages of stone houses
- Durability and long lifespan: If all standards are followed during construction, a stone house can be lived in for more than one generation.
- Safety: In the event of a fire, a stone house will not burn down.
- Wide possibilities for architectural and design solutions.
- Low maintenance: Unlike wood, stone does not require regular treatment.
- Resistance to external influences: Stone is not susceptible to frost, temperature fluctuations, rain, and wind.
- Excellent noise and thermal insulation.
There are only two disadvantages: the high cost of natural stone (which is justified considering its lifespan) and the complexity of wall construction – it is wise to involve checked and reliable builders for this work.
Materials for building a stone house
Houses are very rarely built entirely from natural stone. It is usually only used for finishing and cladding – strengthening the facade in this way allows preserving all the above-mentioned advantages of stone houses.
However, the walls are usually constructed from:
- Bricks: This is the best and most reliable option, requiring certain skills and a durable foundation.
- Blocks: Their large size and light weight allow for quick construction of the house. Block buildings do not require as strong a foundation as brick houses.
- Artificial stone: Houses built from them do not need a complex foundation, and their construction speed is comparable to wooden houses.
